Halloween has started to change around here. I always knew it would happen...that I wouldn't be able to persuasively "choose" my kids costumes, but the different playing fields have started. It's no secret Halloween isn't one of my favorites, but it is a favorite of Jackson and Addison, most especially Jackson. He loves all things scary. Not me. So as the great costume debate began this summer, we were not seeing eye to eye. Jackson loved all the super scary costumes, think Scream. I hate masks, and don't have any appreciation for those costumes that have them or are super scary. We must have looked through half a dozen sites and what felt like thousands of costumes before we found one we could compromise on. Jackson was a "Skeleton Knight," and Addison went for the "Rapunzel" costume. Addison loves the dress up part, especially if her costume gives her reason to wear a little make up. I don't know why October is always a crazy busy one around here, but this one was no different. I actually scheduled in pumpkin carving into our family calendar because without it, we may have done it the day after. Both kids had fun, although Jackson's pumpkin was a bit thick which made for some tough carving.

The kid's school decided to have a family carnival this year right after school for the kids to go to and play games at. They had cars set up for trunk or treat and the older kids at the school helped man the games. It was very well put together, and despite the heat (Halloween always seems like the hottest day of October), everyone had a great time. I got there early enough to help put costumes on. And thank goodness for the "mom purse." Addison had some lace on hers that was kind of itchy so mom fix #467 was to put moleskin on the inside parts of her costume over the lace. It worked like magic and I had one happy camper again.

Of course, we still had to go trick or treating...because what is Halloween without that? After tacos from the golf course (that's our meal now on Fridays!), we got back into costumes and headed out. First stop was Grandma and Grandpa's, then down to Mark and Carrie's where we ran into Carley. All three kids had fun trick or treating together.

Happy Halloween!!! Until next year. Jackson has started talking about some kind of storm trooper costume....that I can handle!
